What does this beach have to offer?

Behind the beautiful nature reserve and recreational forest of Donkere Duinen, you’ll find Donkere Duinen beach access, also colloquially known as the ‘Hengstepad’ entrance. Donkere Duinen beach access can only be reached on foot or by bicycle. The advantage is that you can enjoy a very beautiful and peaceful family beach, especially during a walk or bike ride through this beautiful dune area.

Accessibility to this beach entrance by car is limited, with only a few parking spaces available at the beginning of Hengstepad. From this point, it’s about a kilometer walk to the beach.

The beach is most easily accessible by bicycle, where you can find ample bicycle parking. From the bicycle parking area, it’s just a few minutes’ walk to the beach.

During the summer season, the Coast Bus (851) runs from the Den Helder train station to this beach entrance, with a bus stop at Strandslag Donkere Duinen. It’s a 20-minute walk to the beach from this stop.

This beach entrance is not suitable for people with disabilities due to the lack of facilities.
